Team Silver Talks: Tips to Stay Productive While Working From Home

1. Get Dressed Every Morning

While it may be tempting to stay in your pajamas all day, our team has made a point to get up and get dressed each day before work. After all, we can’t resist putting on our most comfortable pair of jeans! This will be a great start to the morning and have you ready for any impromptu Zoom meetings that might come your way.

2. Create a Clean & Appealing Workspace

Even if you don’t have a home office, set aside a clean space to work in each day. It could be your kitchen table, counter or even patio if you’re lucky! Try to refrain from clutter or anything distracting around you to stay productive.

3. Take Scheduled Breaks

Try to set aside some time each day to step away from the computer, whether it’s to eat meals, take a walk or even do a quick at-home workout! You have a set lunch time and breaks to visit the water cooler at the office, but at home it might not be as easy. Make time, and you’ll definitely see an increase in productivity.

4. Utilize a Messenger App

Communication might be one of the most difficult challenges when working form home, but luckily Team Silver has got it on lock by utilizing a messenger app throughout the work day. With employees all over North America, this is a great way to keep in touch and receive quick responses to things that might get lost in email inboxes. We use Microsoft Teams, but apps like Skype and Slack work great too!

5. Regularly Stretch & Exercise

Just like at the office, it’s important to get up from your desk at home once in a while for a quick stretch or exercise. Things like neck and shoulder rotations, as well as a mid-day yoga session, can wake you up and get you out of that 2 o’clock slump in no time.

6. Invest in a Good Pair of Headphones

If you’re like us, you’re probably finding yourself on the phone or in video conferences more these days than ever before. So if you’ve been going back and forth on whether to splurge for those AirPods, we’re saying go for it. A good pair of headphones (wireless, if possible!) is well worth the investment in the days where digital communication is becoming the new norm.

7. Set Ground Rules for the Others at Home

Your kids and significant other probably aren’t used to having you home so much, so it’s important to set boundaries about what they can and cannot do during your work hours. Whether it’s setting playtime for a specific hour in an opposite room during your call, or making sure your partner doesn’t try to make you do chores mid day, these will eliminate any issues that may come about while WFH (trust us, it works!)

8. Establish an End of Day Routine

At home, it can be easy for the hours to just blend together. Try to create a routine to end your day of work, whether it’s a sign-off message, a neighborhood walk with your dog or an evening meditation. This will help create separation between your work and free hours and let your body know it’s finally time to relax.
