She’s Back: Janice Talks Her Favorite Spring Trends

It’s been a while, but she’s finally back! We recently sat down with your favorite fit expert and denim connoisseur (a.k.a. our Vice President of Design) Janice Marks to talk all things spring. Seeing as Janice is the mind behind the whole collection, we thought she might have a few interesting insights to share when it comes to top trends, season must haves and fits you can’t live without. Spoiler alert: she sure did. Read on for Janice’s thoughts on our spring denim, sportswear and so much more.

If you read our post about the spring launch, you know about Calley, our newest curvy fit. “Traditionally, our curvy fit has been a mid rise (Suki), and our latest high rise update (Avery) was more of an everyday high rise,” says Janice. “With what’s happening in the denim market, we wanted to offer our customer a true waist-hugging high rise that’s designed specifically for a curvy body type. There aren’t many brands doing that for the curvy customer.” Calley is pretty much guaranteed to be a new best seller, so if you’re loving Suki and Avery, you need to try it stat.

Shorts were also a focus for Janice when designing the spring collection. “We wanted to offer a variety of inseams for shorts, with the whole bike short trend being huge right now,” explained Janice. “Knee shorts and longer-length shorts with more relaxed silhouettes are important for the season too, which is what we did with our new Frisco shorts.”

When asked “what’s the one piece from the collection every woman needs?”, Janice did not hesitate for a second. “The new High Note Slim Cropβ€”the high rise is not too extreme, so it goes with all the spring tops and cropped trends that are happening right now,” she explains. “Plus, it has a slim leg to give you the feeling of heritage but with a modern look. It also fits a variety of body types so it’s really something all of our customers can get behind.”

Overall, Janice’s biggest influence for spring continues to be vintage, ’90s specifically. “A lot of our styles, even ones with super-stretch fabrics, are inspired by our ’90s heritage. The washes, the details… we tried to incorporate a lot of those authentic elements in a variety of silhouettes to bring a new perspective to vintage.”

Beyond denim, Janice also shared her must-have tops from the collection. “The Sana Floral-Print Kimono is probably my favorite piece,” she shares. “It’s such a great top. It gives you this elegant look and is the perfect way to dress up your denim if you’re going from day to night. I was influenced by the ’70s bohemian trend, adding a shorter kimono sleeve and tie front to update it.” A close second? “I’m also loving our Peasant Blouse, as I think it is also very bohemian but is more a daytime essential.”
