Giving Tuesday: Shop Today to Help Us Support the IEFTZ

‘Tis the season for giving, but not just gifts. Giving back to communities in need is one of our core values here at Silver Jeans Co., especially around the holidays. That’s why this year, we’re continuing our support of the IEFTZ and giving the gift of education to international students through the Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania.

The IEFTZ is a non-profit that provides education to children in the Orkeeswa Village and surrounding areas, an under-served part of rural Tanzania. With less than a quarter of the population having access to secondary school, the Orkeeswa School provides children with the only opportunity to learn beyond the primary level of education. Beyond academics, the school also offers an athletics program, extra-curricular activities and professional development to inspire, motivate and further the students’ opportunities to succeed.

If you remember last year, we sponsored a student Grace, who has dreams of becoming a nurse in her village. This year, we’re proud to continue that sponsorship and donate 5% of today’s proceeds towards her continued education.

Grace has been thriving at the Orkeeswa School over the past year, developing a strong grasp of the English language through their Intensive English Immersion Program. She is now prepared to begin taking all 10 core academic subjects in the Tanzanian education system, including Physics, Chemistry and Biology! Beyond academics, Grace is also involved in the Trumpet Club and has joined the Junior Girls Volleyball Team. With her first year coming to an end, she shared some of her favorite experiences and learnings with us.

“I learned many vocabulary words, and some of them are cheerful, which means to be happy; and kind, which means caring of others. I am so happy that I learned English because I learned how to speak, write, and read new words! I also enjoyed Tourism Club because it taught me about different animals in our country and other tourist attractions such as mountains and national parks.”

“After this year, I can describe myself as a confident girl because I can stand in front of people and explain myself, a motivator because I encourage my friends to work hard even when they fail, and brilliant because I never fail my exams!”

We’re so proud of Grace and how far she’s come at the Orkeeswa School! Thank you for your help with our continued support of the Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania for this year’s Giving Tuesday. Click here to learn more about the Orkeeswa School and IEFTZ and donate to the cause.
