10 Self-Care Tips to Ease Your Anxiety Right Now
Currently, we’re all probably feeling a little bit uneasy. After all, our lives have been shaken up to say the least. The whole family is at home, you’re now a full-time teacher, co-working with your spouse, cooking more, all while trying your best to establish a new routine. But let’s not forget that during all of this, what’s most important is to take care of yourself too. So we’ve rounded up 10 self-care tips that we’ve been implementing at home to help us stay calm and healthy through this challenging time.
1. Do Yoga
It’s no secret that yoga is great for the mind, body and soul. With all of the streaming classes available to us, now is a great time to add this into your daily routines. If you’re new to it, don’t be afraid to start out with a 20-minute beginner class and work your way up. You can find some of our favorite classes on the PopSugar Fitness YouTube channel or the Peloton app!
Meditation is pretty popular here among Team Silver. Whether you’re a pro or total newbie, it’s a great way to escape the stresses of everyday life, even if just for 10 minutes. We love using the app Headspace, which offers guided meditations of all kinds and lengths to suit your schedule.
3. Read a Book
If you’re like us, you probably have a bookshelf full of books that you’ve never read. Now’s the perfect time to pick one up and get reading! A good book, fiction or non, is a great way to take your mind off of the current events and get inspired.
4. Take a Walk
Even though we’re spending a lot of time at home, that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to get outside (while social distancing, of course)! Take a walk around the neighborhood, with your kids, dog or the whole family to get your heart rate up and breathe some fresh air.
5. Listen to Podcasts
Whether comedy, pop culture, fitness or motherhood is your thing, there’s most definitely a podcast about it. Search whatever topic you’re interested in listening to on iTunes or Spotify and try out something new! You may just find your new weekly show.
6. Rent a New Movie
With movie theaters shutting down, streaming services are stepping up, releasing more and more content for people to enjoy at home. For families, Disney+ released Frozen 2 early, in addition to rental platforms like iTunes releasing in-theater movies to stream as well. And you can never go wrong with a feel-good flick.
7. Play a Game
If you’re running out of activities to do with the kids, it might be time to pull out a trusty deck of cards or game of Monopoly. These are great to keep spirits up and the kids busy, giving you a much-needed moment to sit and relax.
8. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
This may sound like common sense, but getting a good night’s sleep of at least 8 hours is crucial to maintaining your physical and mental health. Try putting your phone down at least an hour before bed or use calming lavender lotion to help you fall asleep quicker.
9. Stay Hydrated
Again, common sense, but it needs to be said. While you’re at home it’s easier than ever to keep a full glass of water next to you at all times. Staying hydrated increases your immune system, helping you feel your best and ready to tackle the day.
10. Try a New Hobby
Staying at home more is a great excuse to try something you wouldn’t normally do! Knitting, painting, sculpting or a DIY project are great ways to keep your mind and hands busy during. Order a kit on Amazon.com or from your local craft store online.
